Surf City Beach Patrol 2012 Pre-Season Schedule

***PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FIRST DAY OF THE SEASON IS PROJECTED AND COULD CHANGE***

 Lifeguard Try Out

When:         Saturday, May 26th – 10AM (new applicants only)
                    Sunday, May 27th – 10AM (returning lifeguards and new applicants if spots available)                        

Try Out:     500m in less than 10 minutes, retrieving submerged brick, short interview

Where:       St. Francis Community Center Pool, 4700 Long Beach Boulevard, Brant Beach, NJ 08008

 

                       

Pre-Season Module Training (Mandatory for First and Second Year Lifeguards*)

When:         Saturday, June 2nd - 10AM morning session, break for lunch, 1PM afternoon session
                    Sunday, June 3rd - 10AM morning session, break for lunch, 1PM afternoon session

What:          Spinal injury, aquatic search and recovery, in-water rescue breathing, first aid in the aquatic environment
 Local hazards, drowning, scuba diver first aid and rescue, bleeding, splinting, and other first aid topics.

Where:        Surf City Borough Hall, 813 Long Beach Boulevard, Surf City, NJ 08008 

                        *Only (full years served) 1st and 2nd year guards are required to attend this training. 

 

CPR/First Aid Certifications

When:        Thursday June 14th - CPR and First Aid Class - Class will start at 6PM
There will be another class, date and time to be determined.
If you require both CPR and First Aid you will need to attend both sessions.
For first aid only you may attend either session.  For scheduling conflicts please give me a call or e-mail me.

Pre-Season Training with the Surf City First Aid Squad (required for all Lifeguards)

When:          Friday, June 15th at 6PM

What:          In addition to meeting the Surf City first aid squad this is the first opportunity for the new lifeguards to meet the returning lifeguards.  This is also an opportunity for all lifeguards to ask the local first aid squad any questions they may have regarding responses from the previous season.  Topics covered will include stabilization and transportation of various injuries, proper oxygen usage, radio procedure, and bloodborne pathogens precautions.

Orientation Meeting (required for all Lifeguards)

When:         Friday, June 15th, 6:30PM (will require an hour or two)

What:          Finish up paperwork, pick days off, review beach procedures, discuss lifeguard professionalism and history, and hand our uniforms.

First Day of the Season

When:         Saturday, June 16th, 2012

Lifeguard Test Information


The Test:

  1. Applicants must swim 500m (22 lengths of the 25yd pool) in less than 10 minutes to be eligible for employment.  Only the freestyle swimming stroke is allowed.  Goggles and swim caps are permitted but diving starts are not.
  2. To be eligible for employment applicants must demonstrate the ability retrieve a submerged dive brick.
  3. There will be a brief interview (5 to 10 minutes) for all new applicants.
  4. The swim test carries the most weight in the hiring process.

What You Should Bring To The Test:

  1. Goggles and a swim cap.
  2. Towel.
  3. A completed pre-employment application.
